At The Beacon, we’re more than just news reporters — we’re building connections, understanding and representing YOU. Your experiences and perspectives matter a lot to us, so join us in our mission to bridge the gap between underrepresented communities and local news. The Juice: Fresh-squeezed news as a zine from The Beacon

Our first issue of The Juice is filled with valuable information on resources like the G.I.F.T. program, how to get a photo ID in Missouri, and housing assistance for people with disabilities.

The Juice: Back to School

Getting ready for the upcoming school year? In our second issue of The Juice, we curated stories to make sure that you’re ready for the back-to-school season and empowered to access your right to a quality education for your children. You’ll also find stories from The Northeast News that feature two exceptional students you should know!

To produce The Juice, we partnered with Kanbe’s Markets, a nonprofit expanding access to fresh, affordable and healthy foods to areas where options are limited.

Some of these stories are inspired by our listening sessions, where we ask community members to share what they need to know about Kansas City. Others come from information we discovered and thought you would find helpful. Issues are distributed at markets across Kansas City and at events.

Don’t let this be a one-sided conversation! Tell us what you’d like to see in the next zine and what else we should know about your neighborhood, city or school.
